Don Rickles thought his time had come to live quietly and collect Social Security checks. But, noooo, not if his erstwhile friends Jimmy Kimmel, Bob Newhart, Jerry Seinfeld, Robert De Niro, David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Tracy Morgan, Regis Philbin, Ray Romano, Martin Scorsese, John Stamos, and Jon Stewart have anything to say about it. These folks have gotten together and conspired to have а big whoop-de-doo for Mr. Warmth at the Apollo Theater early in May, 2014, to be aired on the Spike Network at the end of the month.
The show is scheduled to last for 90 minutes. Perhaps it will be filled with recitations of Rickles’ love letters to wife Barbara, who has put up with him for 49 years of marriage. Or perhaps people will read the many Girl Scout cookie receipts he has accumulated over the years. Or they might read his doctors’ case notes from his operations to sharpen his fangs. Or they will convince Rickles to imitate Miley Cyrus and twerk.
There is no indication in the initial press coverage whether tickets will be available to the general public. Or whether people who want to attend must first show signed permission notes from their psychiatrists.
